Shibuya-kei Legend Cornelius Brings New ‘Ethereal Essence’ Album on West Coast Tour

In celebration of 30 years as recording and performing artist, experimental musician Keigo Oyamada, known as Cornelius, brings his newest release, the aptly named Ethereal Essence (2024), to six venues on the West Coast in September. He first entered the music scene in the late 80s as part of Flipper’s Guitar, a band which pioneered the Shibuya-kei movement in Japan. After becoming a solo act, his biggest claim to fame came from his widely celebrated album Fantasma (1997), one of the cornerstone albums in the Shibuya-kei genre. The flamboyant kitsch of his older albums have matured into a more subdued, but no less inventive sound in more recent albums such as Mellow Waves (2017) and Dream in a Dream (2023). Between album releases, he has also worked on film and TV soundtracks and supported the legendary band Yellow Magic Orchestra and Yoko Ono’s Plastic Ono Band.
