At his final stop of the [HYDE INSIDE] 2024 Tour, HYDE performed to a passionate crowd of fans in Downtown LA venue, The Novo. Many attendees came dressed for the occasion, wearing leather, chains, face paint, and HYDE gear from head to toe. The two-hour show was unique and entertaining, as HYDE effortlessly kept the crowd engaged.
Despite a slight technical hiccup at the top of the show, it began with a special introduction by his five-member band. Under dimmed lights, the two guitarists, keyboardist, drummer, and bassist all appeared on stage wearing masks with neon light eyes. Once they hyped the crowd up, getting everyone on their feet screaming and jumping, HYDE made his entrance on an elevated platform with his classic cross and snake logo on it. “Welcome to [HYDE INSIDE],” the singer screamed, before launching into his signature starting song, “LET IT OUT.” Keeping the high energy up, the singer performed several more hard rock songs paired with heavy flashing red lights. These tracks included “AFTER LIGHT,” “I GOT 666,” “DEFEAT,” “BLEEDING,” and “TAKING THEM DOWN,” the last of which featured him bringing out a megaphone for the bridge of the song.
An important aspect of his shows is controlling the energy level, shared HYDE. The artist sought to create a setlist that balances fast and slow-paced songs to not only give attendees diverse music, but also give them time to go crazy and to take a break. This next part of the set was a great example of this, as the screaming and jumping from “TAKING THEM DOWN” quickly subdued as the beginning notes of “THE ABYSS” began and the lights turned a dark, moody blue. “Tokoshie,” one of his songs with MY FIRST STORY from the Demon Slayer soundtrack, served as a transitional track as it slowly brought the energy back up. As the track was made for the anime’s antagonist Muzan, the song was executed with a dramatic flair. Wind blew through HYDE’s flowy outfit and cape to replicate Muzan’s iconic walk in the anime, and the lights turned dark and ominous. Finishing up the song, the singer even lifted the mic stand up above his head, revealing a flowing flag with his logo on it. Like a powerful villain, he dramatically held the flag for a moment and let it flutter in the wind.
Encouraging fans to create more chaos in the general admission section, HYDE called for mosh pits on two separate occasions, and he requested for fans to get low and jump high on cue with him before calling attendees “cute” for complying. For “6or9,” one of HYDE’s self-proclaimed signature songs, the performance featured additional stage props, bringing the energy within the venue to new heights. As fans jumped up high with the singer, inflatable tube men popped up on both sides of the stage as well, flowing and moving along with the music. While this was a memorable performance, the highlight of the show was the performances that came shortly afterwards — “MIDNIGHT CELEBRATION II” and “LAST SONG.”
Stripping himself of the black cape and hat he had on thus far, HYDE really delved into the theatrics next. “MIDNIGHT CELEBRATION II” had the singer performing with copious amounts of fake blood trickling down his face. Representing his death or an ending of sorts, the final moments of the song saw HYDE collapsing on the floor before the lights turned down. Continuing the bloody finale, he launched into “LAST SONG,” which was paired with multiple launches of blood red confetti into the crowd. With both songs describing being lonely and lost, the performance symbolizes the death of those feelings, allowing HYDE to find his confidence and direction once more.
Not ready send fans off yet, the singer prepared four additional songs for an encore performance. Prior to that, HYDE’s band gave fans an enchanting performance, starting off with two guitar solos that led into a drum solo. During the drum solo, the band’s drummer ran to the front of the stage with a giant drum, beating it passionately. Once the drummer stepped away, the top of the drum burst open to reveal HYDE himself. Following this surprise entrance, the rockstar performed “PANDORA,” iconic Demon Slayer opening song “MUGEN,” “GLAMOROUS SKY,” and VAMPS song “SEX BLOOD ROCK N’ ROLL” to officially end the night.
With promises to return, loud shouts of gratitude, and an immeasurable amount of flying kisses blown to the crowd, HYDE exited the stage to thunderous cheers, and the tour officially came to an end. HYDE successfully delivered his vision through this show, creating a theatrical experience that came to life with his rockstar stage presence. And for fans, it was truly an unforgettable glimpse inside HYDE’s mind.
