TripleS LOVElution Moves the Hearts of WAV in New York

October 23, 2023

Despite debuting in February of this year, rookie K-pop group tripleS embarked on their first ever world tour, [Authentic] LOVElution, this fall. The fourth stop of this tour brought the tripleS subunit, LOVElution, to perform in New York City. Unfortunately, one of the members, SoHyun, was feeling unwell and was unable to participate in this show. Regardless, the performing seven members brought a level of energy that filled the entire venue with buzzing excitement.

Starting off with a treat for fans, the group performed an unreleased song, “Atmosphere.” It was originally meant to be released on the group’s debut mini album, but it ended up being cut. Hearing a live exclusive song from the top of the show made the concert immediately worth it for fans, known as WAV. Following “Atmosphere,” they performed one of the subunit’s original compositions, “Complexity.” Green backlighting illuminated the members and the stage in a mysterious way, prompting the crowd to scream in excitement as they heard the first few notes of the song. The intro to the concert was rounded off by “Dimension,” the tripleS’s main theme song.

As the show went on, the group took some time to let each members’ individual skills shine. Putting their remarkable vocals on display, DaHyun singlehandedly sang a tripleS song, “Cry Baby,” expressing the comforting lyrics to a cute and upbeat melody, and SeoYeon performed a vocal cover of Claire Rosinkranz’s quirky pop track “Frankenstein.” Meanwhile, the rest of the members performed energetic dance covers to popular girl group songs such as Itzy’s “Cake,” and New Jean’s “Hype Boy,” though Yubin’s intense dance cover of Aespa’s “Illusion” in particular blew the roof off the venue.

Just when everyone thought the solos were over, the members hyped up their main vocalist, DaHyun, before she went on to perform her second OST, “More Than Yesterday,” which was recorded for the TV Drama, Dr. Romantic. The entire crowd fell silent as she sang but the crowd momentarily lost control whenever she belted powerful high notes, demonstrating her vocal prowess.

In between performances, tripleS took every chance to interact with the crowd and offer fan service, from waving to fans through the venue to posing for pictures and videos. The only outfit change they made during this show was wearing their own merch for the encore, but that just meant the group had more time on stage to interact with fans. Taking it another step further, the group spent almost three minutes during a ment in the encore just walking along the edge of the stage and taking phones from fans to take selfies and videos for them. At one point, DaHyun was taking selfies with two phones in both hands to take as many photos as possible.

Going out with a bang, the group saved some of their most popular title tracks for the end. In the second half of the show, they performed “Generation,” the title track from the Acid Angels from Asia subunit’s mini-album, Access. Originally performed by a four-member subunit, the song was adapted for the seven members of LOVElution, and listeners were able to enjoy a new rendition that featured more layers to the original song. The subunit also performed modified choreography that showcased the group’s smooth coordination, which was all the more mesmerizing due to the group’s synchronization and masterful execution of more complex formation changes. Riding the momentum, the subunit performed their own title track, “Girls’ Capitalism.” The peppy and upbeat track is anchored by an addictive “la la la heart” motif that elevated the feel good vibes filling the venue.

The final song of the night was “Rising,” the title track of tripleS’ debut album, Assemble. Bathed in deep red lights, the members got in position for the finale. As the music began to play, the crowd erupted into cheers, and the group came to life and dived right into the performance. Performing the funky pop song with its hip hop-inspired choreography, the group ended the night showing off their cool side.

The crowd cheered and waved goodbye as the members left the stage, but not without the members grabbing a few more phones for selfies on their way out. Despite being a rookie group of less than one year, the members knew how to work the crowd and connect with their fans with a relaxed ease often seen in veteran groups. From beginning to end, the concert was a showcase of LOVElution’s versatility and well-rounded talent, from singing and dancing to fan engagement. As tripleS continues to reconfigure itself with new subunits and put out new music styles, WAV can anticipate which new subunit will make its way to the States next.
