Presented by Shining Production and Raging Entertainment, a joint performance between ST☆RISH, QUARTET NIGHT and HE★VENS titled the ALL STAR STAGE -MUSIC UNIVERSE- took place on day one of Anime Expo. At the Novo, fans filled the floor and were ready with their lighsticks to dance the night away. As the show implemented a no photo or video policy, attendees could be seen truly enjoying the music and experience, paying full attention to the performances.
The show featured a variety of performances from each group, with everything from full group numbers to unit and solo stages. Creating unique collaborations, all three groups also joined together for a few special songs at the beginning and end of the show. As this concert has already been released as a Blu-Ray and DVD in Japan, many fans were already aware of the full setlist.
Keeping that in mind, what made the show truly special were the fans and production. As mentioned, each attendee was prepared with a lightstick or two — either the ones being sold especially for the show, or standard lightsticks that could alternate in color. Not only did fans all dance along with each performer onstage with the correct lightstick choreography, they also came prepared with knowledge of the setlist, changing colors to represent each member swiftly between each song.
Production-wise, it was clear that staff did their very best to make the performers look like they were physically onstage. The screen was large enough that the edges were no longer visible, creating a seamless effect that helped mask the 2D surface upon which the performers appeared. Additionally during performances, the screens featured an spotlight on each of the animated characters, casting realistic shadows behind them to elevate the 3D effect.
Overall, the show was a great experience for those who were familiar with and big fans of ST☆RISH, QUARTET NIGHT and HE★VENS. While it’d be similar to stay home and watch on a computer or TV screen, the main appeal of the concert was being able to dance and enjoy the music along with other fans. Hearing the songs over the loud speakers and seeing the choreography on such a large screen with the unique 3D effect, fans were screaming terms of endearment, cheering, and singing along all through the final bow.
