One Punch Man Fans Set New Guinness World Record at AX 2025

July 12, 2025

Ahead of One Punch Man Season 3, Makoto Furukawa and Max Mittelman, Japanese and English voices for Saitama respectively, Greg Chun, English voice for Garou, Toshiaki Oshima, manga editor, and Chinatsu Matsui, anime producer took the stage at Anime Expo 2025. While the panel didn’t reveal new information about the upcoming season, it was a retrospective on the cast’s experience from working on Season 1 and 2.

Furukawa led the cast’s entrance onto the stage while greeting the crowd and screaming “Oppai!” Before diving into the cast’s thoughts, attendees participated in an attempt to set a new Guinness World: the most people performing the One Punch Man Maji Naguri (Serious Punch) simultaneously. With an officiator present to verify the attempt, the crowd succeeded with 1,107 people.

On both Saitama voice actors reuniting, Mittelman said, “It does not feel like we first met nine years ago. It somehow simultaneously feels like it was yesterday and a long time ago. It’s really special to have met nine years ago, and I almost feel like you’re kind of like a brother to me because we share this same character. We both have the same experience of stepping into the boots of this really cool bald guy, and it feels like it instantly bonds us.”

When the cast and crew thought about what makes One Punch Man so special, it always came back to the comedy. Mittelman chose the Saitama vs. Suiryu tournament battle as one of his favorite scenes: “It’s peak comedy. It’s the perfect subversion of the tournament arc trope, where you have a hero who is supposed to learn all these profound lessons through each round, but ultimately Saitama learns exactly zero profound lessons and almost accidentally kills his opponent. He does not get any stronger and totally smashes Suiryu’s worldview. It kind of perfectly encapsulates Saitama’s worldview, in that he just wants to have fun, and that’s it.”

Matsui selected a scene in which Genos is declaring his devotion to Saitama as his disciple, while Saitama brushes it off like it’s nothing. “One-sensei has this really particular sense of comedy. So when we were working with him to fit this scene in, we paid a lot of attention to make it fit with the original comedy. It’s a scene original to the anime, and Suzuki did a wonderful job on it. Suzuki will also be the writer for Season 3, so we hope everyone looks forward to that.”

While fans were anticipating an official Season 3 trailer featuring full animation at the panel, attendees were treated to the voice actors reciting fan-favorite lines, as well as a surprise appearance by Kaito Ishikawa, voice of Genos.

One Punch Man Season 3 will premiere in October 2025.
