One of K-pop’s newest boy groups, DXMON stepped onto the music scene with fire in their souls, eager to show listeners what they’re all about. Comprised of MINJAE, SEITA, HEE, TK, REX, and JO, the six-member group kicked off the year with their pre-debut single, Burn Up, and followed up quickly with their debut mini album, Hyperspace, on January 17th.
Leading up to their debut, the members made various preparations that included training in the U.S. and Japan. Music and dance aside, fashion plays an important part in defining DXMON’s identity. “As trainees, our CEO would take us to watch fashion shows of various brands,” shared REX. “This experience served as an opportunity for us to develop an interest in fashion and draw inspiration from the diverse styles showcased.”
Describing their debut as “explosive,” MINJAE explained, “The process of debut felt like we were hidden somewhere and then burst forth, making a powerful impact.” The group expressed this sentiment through the notable theme of fire in both their pre-debut single and mini album title track, “Burn Up” and “Spark.” “The fire in the track ‘Spark’ represents a small fire caused by static, symbolizing our time spent as trainees,” started REX. “‘Burn Up’ narrates our story after our debut, symbolizing our determination to burn brightly,” said MINJAE.
Diving into “Spark,” MINJAE shared his love for the song “because it is easy on the ears yet can become exciting and calm at the right moments.” TK added, “The melody of ‘Spark’ carries an R&B vibe, yet the strong and intense beat is a unique blend that I haven’t encountered before.” As for “Burn Up,” SEITA considers it the group’s representative song: “It effectively captures our passion and energy, showcasing the essence of DXMON exceptionally well.” JO explained that it’s the perfect combination of the song’s powerful beat and the group’s bold style and concept.
While it’s only the beginning for the group, the group has their eyes set on big goals: getting a song onto the Billboard charts and performing at Coachella. Determined to blaze their own trail, JO shared, “We are committed to giving our best, with the dream to become superb artists as time progresses and we gain more experience.”
