Dance traditions from across South Asia will be celebrated at Jayanthi Raman’s Shadows from Within, a collaborative dance performance that will premiere in Portland on April 19, 2025.
The multicultural performance will feature Raman and her dancers performing classical dance of India, Prajwal Acharya leading the dance from Nepal, Indonesian Performing Arts of Oregon (IPAO) honoring the cultures of the islands of Indonesia, and the Cambodian Dance Troupe of Oregon (CDTO) showcasing the traditions of Cambodia. Known for melding classical Indian dance with contemporary flavors, Raman is a award-winning performer, choreographer, and art advocate based in Portland, where she leads the Jayanthi Raman Dance Company and regularly presents work that reflects her Indo-American identity.
