K-pop boy group P1Harmony released their first ever English EP, EX, in September. The five-track album came just before they embarked on the North American leg of their P1ustage H: Most Wanted tour. It offers music for every mood, every day; from joy and carefreeness to heartbreak and self-doubt, there is a song that everyone can relate to in this coming-of-age mini album.
Track 1: EX
P1Harmony’s title track is about empowering women, encouraging them to leave unfulfilling relationships, and reminding them that they deserve to explore and live life on their terms. They drive the message home with a catchy chorus that plays off the word “ex”: “Every girl deserves to have her exploration / Have a little fun without an explanation / Exit on them when they hit the expiration / End of story, period, no exclamation.” The bright melody and playful lyrics is a fun spin on an inspiring message.
Track 2: Dancing Queen
“Dancing Queen” is a nostalgic pop-rock track, perfect for summer. The song is about falling in love with a “dancing queen.” The gentle delivery of the first verse sets a dreamy tone to the song, before P1Harmony kicks up the intensity during the headbob-inducing chorus. It’s the type of lighthearted song that would fit as a soundtrack to a teenage romance film.
Track 3: Stupid Brain
In the entire EP, “Stupid Brain” is the only track that isn’t joyful and instead focuses on the frustration of dealing with mind-consuming indecision and anxiety. P1Harmony showcases a different side to themselves with this unique R&B track, delivering vocals that reflect the drowning feeling of being overwhelmed and the desperate hope for a moment of peace. This song can offer comfort to those who are experiencing the same struggle.
Track 4: Night of My Life
“Night of My Life” channels 2000s boy group music to offer listeners a dance-pop party anthem. The high energy of the EDM elements of the track exudes good vibes, complementing the song’s straightforward lyrics about living your best life and having fun with those around you. “I think tonight is the night of my life” is repeated throughout the whole song like a mantra, and every time it is repeated, it feels more and more like a manifestation.
Track 5: EX (Spanish Version)
To close their mini album, P1Harmony delivers another first for them: a Spanish-language song. While it’s the Spanish version of the title track, it highlights P1Harmony’s effort to connect with their Spanish-speaking fans and reflects their growing global reach.” This release also comes just in time for their Latin America tour, which comes after the North American leg.
EX is out now on streaming platforms. Also, P1Harmony is currently performing across North America for theirn tour, P1ustage H: MOST WANTED. Ticket information can be found here.
