Japanese girl group cosmosy made an appearance at Anime Expo 2026 to host a dance workshop and autograph session. Ahead of the event, the four-member group sat down with Asia Blooming to discuss their latest EP, anime inspirations, and their growth since their debut last year.
In March, cosmosy released their second EP, ~ of the world ~, a genre-blending project inspired by late-’90s and early-2000s J-R&B, J-Hip-Hop, House, and J-Urban. Combining nostalgic influences with futuristic production, the EP bridges the past and present while telling the story of a failed attempt to control love. “Our first EP opened the door to a new world, and thus the second EP continues those stories,” Kamión shared. “We believe real love is free, and no one can control it.” One of the tracks on this EP is “Chance ~ switch on ~,” which captures the feeling of being on the edge of love. With the group’s Japanese roots and current home in Seoul, this track in particular was released in three languages: English, Japanese, and Korean. “Japanese is my native language, so that’s the most natural for me,” De_Hana began. “Korean is harder to pronounce, and English is harder to understand. But, we sing in three languages as it helps us share our music with fans all around the world.”
The EP also features the songs, “Physics ~ falling into you ~,” “Silence ~ body & soul ~,” “Patience ~ seal my love ~,” “Paradise ~ I need you ~,” and “Outro ~ of the World ~,” creating a unique tracklist of songs of varying genres and styles. With so many types of songs in the EP, there’s something for everyone to enjoy, and the members each had their own favorites. “My favorite song to listen to is “Patience ~ seal my love ~,” because the vibe of the song is so soft and emotional,” Kamión shared. For De_Hana, her favorite track is “Physics ~ falling into you ~,” as she describes it as a song that’s just beautiful overall. For A’mei and Himesha, both enjoy the song “Paradise ~ I need you ~” most. “I love the dreamy vibe and the melody of the song a lot,” A’mei shared as Himesha nodded in agreement.
cosmosy is known for their cinematic concepts that often tell a story, which made them the perfect fit for Anime Expo. As such, the members had no problem imagining themselves within an anime world. “We actually each have our own anime characters,” Kamión shared. “If our universe were adapted into an anime, our opening scene would show each of our four characters gathered together in one place with our special rings. They’d touch their rings together, a bright light would suddenly burst out, and our characters would transform into the real cosmosy members, all while ‘Paradise ~ I need you ~’ plays in the background,” she continued, painting the scene. “The lyrics of the song fit the beginning of a story perfectly.”

Each of the members also finds one another similar to an anime protagonist in one way or another. “Himesha reminds me of Yuzuriha from Hell’s Paradise,” A’mei shared. “They look alike and are both so beautiful.” For Kamión, she sees A’mei as someone powerful, energetic, and always eager to try something new, like Luffy from One Piece. De_Hana sees Kamión as Vanellope from Wreck-It Ralph, chalking it up to their shared cute ears and big, beautiful eyes. And while De_Hana sees herself as Sadness from Inside Out because of her appearance when she wears glasses, Himesha sees her as the Yellow Larva from Larva. “De_Hana worries about little things here and there, but she always stays positive and enjoys the moment.”
Although each individual member has different qualities that are reminiscent of different characters, as a group, they find a lot of inspiration from Sailor Moon. “The characters wear really cute school uniforms, but they also transform into powerful warriors,” De_Hana began. “That’s actually very similar to cosmosy’s concept, so it makes our performances feel much more cinematic.” As Sailor Moon is often associated with bright colors and uplifting stories, Himesha also added in Tomie by Junji Ito as a second source of inspiration. “I think there’s a connection with Tomie, as our concepts share the same dark and mysterious vibe.” As the group explores different concepts with each song, A’mei thinks that the color white describes them well. “White goes with every color,” she shared. “Just like that, we want cosmosy to be known as a group that can pull off many different concepts. White, to me, represents endless possibilities.”
While every song in their repertoire has its own appeal, some tracks have become the group’s favorite when performing. “When we first heard HIGH=LOVE,” we weren’t so sure about the song because the melody and vibe were so strong and intense,” Kamión said. “But after performing it at a university festival, everything changed. We use fans as props in the choreography, and the crowd’s reaction was so amazing.” Other songs the group really loves performing include “Lucky=One,” which they describe as having great choreography, “Chance ~ switch on ~,” which is cute and bouncy, but also a little Hip-Hop, and “Silence ~ body & soul ~,” since it shows off a more chic side to the group.
Despite having debuted just over a year ago, the group has continued to grow and accomplish many impressive feats. They’ve accumulated over 50 million views on YouTube, and already have a steady stream of 400k monthly listeners on Spotify. But, to the members, their strengthening bond is what truly exemplifies how far they’ve come. “At first, living together was a little hard because we didn’t know each other at all,” De_Hana admitted. “But, little by little, we learned to understand and respect each other. In that way, I think our group has really bloomed, just like Cosmos flowers.”
