At Anime Expo 2024, Junya Enoki (voice of Yuki Itadori), Shota Goshozono (director of season two), and Keisuke Seshimo (animation producer) came together to look back at season two of Jujutsu Kaisen, which ended on the harrowing Shibuya Incident Arc.
Starting off with his most memorable scenes from the series, Enoki couldn’t help but name two: the final battle with Mahito, and the scene in episode 41 when he vomits after taking in the terrible scene before him. To perform the intense scene, Enoki shared that he was on all fours, just like Itadori, though he didn’t actually throw up, but cried a lot. In contrast to the crowd’s reaction to watching a clip of the despairing scene, Goshozono could be seen smiling, while letting out a soft “Nice.” He explained, “[Enoki’s] His acting adds a level of realism that anime doesn’t normally have.”
So that attendees could experience this voice acting in person, Enoki treated the crowd with a live reading of Itadori using Black Flash on Mahito from episode 44. What’s more, Goshozono gave fans a special look at key art and storyboards from season two. Displaying storyboard animatics, Goshozono showcased the process from his simple sketch to the touch ups and final key art. Looking at a scene featuring a young Gojo, Seshimo chimed in to share that they put a lot of thought into the translucence of Gojo’s sunglasses. Goshozono explained that part of what makes Gojo a cool character are his eyes, so they have to be thoughtful about when to show his eyes.
Bringing a final gift to fans, Seshimo prepared a highlight reel of season two for the crowd to enjoy together. Following the video, the panelists did a call and response with the audience of the infamous line from the anime’s season one opening song “SPECIALZ” by King Gnu. After each panelist said, “You are my,” the crowd enthusiastically responded, “Special!”
With some time left, the panelists graciously allowed the audience to ask some questions. One memorable question was from a fan asking what Enoki’s type is, referencing how Itadori prefers someone who looks like Jennifer Lawrence. And in Itadori fashion, he replied, “Tall women with big hips.” When Enoki said that he hopes to return next year, fans requested he bring Yuma Uchida (voice of Megumi Fushiguro) along with him. As the crowd cheered, Seshimo said “Maybe we will have to bring him next time.”
